Elizabeth Siddal's Death & Exhumation

The amazing opening scene of Ken Russell's Dante's Inferno (1967) conflates a scene from 1869 (Rossetti digging up the grave of his dead wife to retrieve a manuscript of his poems) with a scene wholly from imagination (rioters in 1848 throwing Joshua Reynolds paintings into a bonfire).
