Opening Day

I was thrilled to be joined by ten students yesterday for the curators' lecture and walk-around. We had a great time. As expected, the massive East Wing Auditorium was full to capacity five minutes before the lecture started. If you came late and were turned away, well, sorry you missed it.

The lecture in many ways was a summation of our studies so far. Most of us could nod along, already understanding the basic contours of the PRB and the Aesthetic Movement. We are now ready to move out of the purely appreciative phase and into more critical approaches.

I bought a copy of Tim Barringer's Reading the Pre-Raphaelites (rev. ed. 2012). He is one of the show's curators. The book is great.  I'm fairly certain that he'll be back in DC for the symposium on March 8-9.

  1. The opening was pretty sweet. Being part of the final 7 people allowed to enter, while upper-class elderly people were denied entry seemed equally as sweet. I feel like I've already learned so much! Thanks, Montel, this class rocks!
